How to Clean a Phone Speaker

Three easy steps. About one minute. No rice, no pins, and no cotton swabs pushed into the holes.

1. Find the speaker and point it down

Most phones have the loudspeaker on the bottom edge. That is the one for music and speakerphone. Turn off Bluetooth so the tone plays from the phone, not earbuds. Set volume high. Hold that grille toward the floor so dust and water can fall out.

2. Play sound and vibration

Tap Start on the tool below. Water eject uses a low 165-230 Hz sweep to move the speaker membrane so droplets can leave. Dust mode uses a higher pulse plus vibration to loosen pocket lint stuck in the mesh.

3. Test, then repeat once

Play a song or make a test call. If the phone speaker is still muffled, run one more 60-second cycle. If you can see lint, brush the grille with a dry soft brush after the sound cycle. Never use a pin or needle.

What a Phone Speaker Cleaner Is Used For

A phone speaker cleaner is for a grille that is blocked – not a speaker that is torn or dead. Dust, lint, sweat, and leftover water are the usual causes of muffled sound.

Dust and pocket lint

Phones live in pockets, bags, and beds. Tiny fibers sit in the speaker mesh and make music sound dull. Dust mode uses higher pulses and vibration so those particles can fall out when the phone faces down.

Water after rain, a sink, or a splash

Water clings to the mesh and muffles audio. Water eject plays a 165-230 Hz tone so the membrane moves and droplets can leave. Wipe the phone dry first.

Muffled calls and quiet music

If speakerphone is quiet but the phone still rings, the bottom speaker is often blocked. If people sound far away with the phone on your ear, the top ear speaker may be dirty. This page is for the loudspeaker. Use the ear speaker cleaner for the earpiece.

No app to install

This phone speaker cleaner runs in Chrome, Safari, Edge, or Firefox. Nothing goes to the App Store or Play Store. The tone is made on your phone. You can also start from the homepage.

Sound plus vibration

Sound moves the speaker cone. Vibration shakes the body of the phone. Together they clear more compacted lint than a single beep. Keep the cycle to one or two minutes.

iPhone and Android phones

Any phone that can play media in a browser can use this tool. Turn Bluetooth off first. For extra tips see iPhone, Samsung, and Oppo.

WHY THIS PHONE SPEAKER CLEANER

A free way to fix a muffled phone speaker

A muffled phone speaker is usually blocked, not broken. Pocket lint, face oil, sweat, and leftover water sit in the tiny holes. Compressed air, rice, and pins often make it worse. This site gives you a sound-and-vibration phone speaker cleaner you can use right after a splash or a dusty day.

You do not install an app, create an account, or wait 48 hours. Open this page or the homepage, choose dust or water, and run a short cycle. Hold the speaker down so gravity helps.

Be honest about limits. Two cycles can clear lint and light water. They cannot rebuild a torn speaker, fix corrosion, or dry a logic board. If sound is still weak after two tries, stop blasting tones. Read our about page, or contact us.

Phone Speaker Cleaner FAQ

A phone speaker cleaner is a tool that plays sound – and on this site, vibration as well – so the speaker membrane moves. That movement can push out trapped water and loosen dust in the grille. Ours runs in your browser.

The most common reason is a blocked grille. Pocket lint, dust, sweat, and leftover water sit in the tiny holes. Music then sounds dull and speakerphone sounds quiet. The speaker is often fine. The mesh in front of it is dirty.

Open this phone speaker cleaner, turn off Bluetooth, set volume high, and hold the bottom speaker toward the floor. Choose Dust Removal or Water Eject and tap Start. After the cycle, you can brush the grille with a dry soft brush. Do not use a pin, needle, or vacuum.

A short cycle in the normal music range (about 165-230 Hz for water eject) is safe for modern phone speakers. Run one or two minutes, not ten. Do not pour liquid into the grille. Do not use high-pressure air.

Wipe the phone dry. Power it off first if it was soaked. Hold the speaker down. Run Water Eject for 60 seconds, then test. Repeat once if needed. This helps water in the grille. It cannot dry the inside of the phone.

The bottom speaker plays music and speakerphone. Clean it on this page. The ear speaker is the small grille at the top used for calls. If people sound far away with the phone on your ear, use the ear speaker cleaner. Do not hold the phone to your ear while a loud tone plays.

Yes. Any phone that can play sound in a browser can use this tool. Turn Bluetooth off.

One 60-second cycle, then test a song or call. Repeat once if it is still muffled. If nothing changes, stop. Visible lint needs a soft brush. A dead or rattling speaker needs repair, not more sound.
